Our neighborhood was in the path of the first of two tornados which hit the local Springfield, Illinois area on March 12th, 2006. I have been unable to blog for the last week. Power, and Internet connectivity have been restored! I will now begin posting to this blog on a regular basis again.

Folks, tt's great to be alive, and blogging again!

As darkness gave way to light on the morning of March 13th, 2006, my family did not know what to expect. Just how extensive would the damage be to the Village of Jerome, Illinois? Wabash Avenue was in the path of the first of two tornados to descend upon the south side of Springfield the night before. Many businesses along Wabash were damaged. This post features the iconic Lauterbach Tire and Auto Giant. If there was humor to be found in any portion of the events of that night, I would have to say this would be it.

Glad everything is back to normal for ya' all.

How thoughtful of you to post, in previous post, a prayer at this time.

And thus concludes Part 1 of winter in 2006.

JP, Welcome back. I thought about you and your family often this past week. Glad you and yours made it through the storm.

Thank you Constance, and Marie.

We were all exceedingly fortunate.

Trees, and property damage can be dealt with.

That no one was badly injured, or died is, considering the damage, a miracle.

My daughter was busy praying to Mary while the tornado hit, despite the fact she's a Lutheran.

I being raised Catholic decided to dedicate a post to Mary in her honor - it's the least I could do.

That, and head to church this morning.

They should replace his head with a giant pumpkin. He could be the headless horseman.

Hope a little levity is appropriate. Sometimes it is good for the soul.

Looking forward to more photos.

What happened to the head? Where was it taken off to?

I'm posting this comment in on Thanksgiving morning 2006. We all have much to be thankful for - mainly that we didn't all get killed.

As far as the head is concerned, it was found in the ruins of the bar just next door - the Barrel Head.

It has now been reattached, and the giant stands proudly displaying his head, and an American flag.
